Your diet plays an important role in how your body functions, eating certain food can boost your fertility but it will not turn an infertile person to a fertile person. When you are trying to conceive there are several new things you start doing to help you get pregnant. Eating can be one of them, these food items will not automatically get you pregnant but it may help you fast forward the process. Certain nutrients play an important role in your reproductive system and giving your body those nutrients helps. Adding a few things to your diet will not hurt. Here is the list of 11 food items that will act helpful when you are trying to concieve:


Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health looked at nearly 19,000 female nurses who were actively trying to get pregnant and found that infertility was 39 percent more likely in women with the highest intake of animal protein.  Women who eat plant proteins are less likely to have any trouble to conceive. Adding beans, tofu, lentils, and nuts is a good start.

Grapefruit and orange fruit juice

Grapefruit juice and orange juice are very high in the polyamine putrescine, which may improve semen health. Putrescine may also improve egg health; putrescine helps both egg and sperm cells maintain their chromosomal integrity. The vitamin C is also helpful, deficiency of vitamin C can cause hormonal problems in hormonal.

Mature Cheese

Mature cheese is specifically high in the polyamine putrescine, which may play a role in sperm health. Putrescine is also suspected of improving egg health, especially in women over 35 years. Make sure you have it in a limit because matured cheese are packed with saturated fats.

Leafy greens

Spinach, romaine, arugula, broccoli, and other dark leafy greens are high in folate, a B vitamin that a few studies have shown may improve ovulation. Leafy greens are also great for men as it helps have healthier sperms.

Full fat dairy

Products like whole milk, full-fat yogurt, ice cream, cream cheese, and other cheese. A Harvard study found that women who ate full-fat dairy products were less likely to experience ovulation problems than women who ate primarily low-fat dairy products.

Cooked Tomatoes

Cooked tomatoes are high in lycopene, a powerful antioxidant. Lycopene is helpful in improving male fertility. Lycopene supplementation has even been researched as a possible treatment for male infertility.  You can add cooked tomatoes in the form of sauces or soups.


Pomegranates are rich in antioxidants and may boost male fertility. According to a study, pomegranate improves sperm motility by 60 percent. Studies have found that pomegranate juice and pomegranate extract may improve sperm concentration and motility after several weeks.


Eggs are a good source of B-vitamins, which are important for fertility Eggs also contain choline. Choline may reduce the risk of some birth defects.  Omega-3 fats are important for fertility as well, and you can get a boost from the omega-enriched eggs.

Wild salmon

People trying to conceive usually avoid fishes due to the mercury content which could be a health hazard for the baby but a wild caught salmon is very low in toxins. Salmon is rich in essential fatty acids and omega-3s, which has been shown to be beneficial to fertility in men and women. It’s also a must-have nutrient during pregnancy for healthy fetal growth. Other important reproductive nutrients found in salmon are vitamin D and selenium. Selenium has been shown to be important for semen healthy, and low vitamin D levels seem to be associated with poor fertility in men and women.

Complex carb

Increased insulin levels can disrupt reproductive hormones. Complex carbs take longer to breakdown than refined carbs keeping the blood sugar levels. When you’re planning to conceive, always choose dark bread over light, brown rice over white, and whole wheat pasta over white.

Olive oil

Inflammation interferes with ovulation, conception, and early development of embryos. Olive oil is a monounsaturated fat that helps increase insulin sensitivity and decrease inflammation throughout the body.

Trying all kind of bizarre things to boost up your fertility is very common in couples trying to conceive, these are just a few regular food items that we consume anyways.
